Abstract
As global markets have increasingly digitized, SMEs must adopt digital technologies to remain
competitive. Nevertheless, there is a lack of comprehensive understanding regarding the extent
to which SMEs have embraced digital technology in order to support and promote sustainability
objectives. Hence, the primary objective of this study is to present an in-depth review of the
digitization of SMEs in relation to sustainability, employing the literature review approach. The
study highlights strategies for successful Digital Transformation (DT), emphasizing the need for
government support, collaborative ecosystems, incremental implementation, and customercentric approaches. Through a literature review, this research underscores the critical role of
DT in enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs, offering insights and recommendations for
policymakers, business leaders, and stakeholders in Kano State and similar contexts.
