Environmental Knowledge Management and Employees’ Green Behavior in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria: A Conceptual Approach

Environmental knowledge management is an increasingly important topic in the context of tertiary institutions, as it can have a significant impact on employees' green behavior. Researches on environmental knowledge management have generally concentrated on three areas: sharing, application, and awareness of Environmental knowledge, according to reviews of empirical studies on the subject. In contrast, this study proposes a new theoretical model for understanding employees' green behavior, by conceptualizing the availability of Environmental Resources (AvEKR), accessibility of Environmental Resources (AcEKR), and utilization of Environmental Resources (UEKR) as independent variables. This study investigates for future research whether these novel proxies’ leads to improved employee green behaviors (EGB) from the perspective of the Information Processing Model (IPM) and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) specifically among higher institutions in Nigeria. The study recommends a mixed-methods approach that combines both qualitative and quantitative research methods, Interviews should be conducted with employees to gather qualitative data on their green behaviors and their perceptions of environmental knowledge resources and also to conduct a survey to collect quantitative data on the availability, accessibility, and utilization of environmental knowledge resources, as well as on green behavior. Finally, the study recommends the use of statistical and thematic analysis to analyze the data. This conceptual study recommends adding to existing literature as a future resource for scholars. The study's findings can help tertiary institutions understand how to use EKM to encourage EGB in the workplace.
