Board Structure and Dividend Payout Policies of Listed Consumer Goods Firms in Nigeria.

Abstract

This study basically investigates the effect of board structure on dividend policy of listed consumergoods firms in Nigeria. It also looks at the relationship between Dividend Payout ratio, board size,board composition and profitability the sampled consumer goods firms in Nigeria. The studyutilizes secondary method of data collection to collect the data necessary for the conduct of thisstudy. Data were collected from the annual reports of the six sampled firms for the period 2013-2023. Ex-post factor research design was used as well as the pooled regression analysis methodwas employed as a statistical technique for analyzing the dathere is an insignificant association between dividend ta collected. The study revealed thatpayout ratio and board size of the listedconsumer goods firms in Nigeria. In another light the result of the study gave a contrary opinionwhere it indicates that dividend payout ratio, profitability and board composition of the sampledconsumer goods firms in Nigeria are all significant related. The study recommends that sinceprofitability and board composition are statistically significant and they affect dividend payout ofthe listed consumer goods firm in Nigeria for the period of the study, the management of the entitiesshould focus on building more profitability and also ensure regular portfolio analysis while takinginto consideration other factors that can affect the company’s profitability in the long run.
