Abstract

Technological advancements have given rise to new kinds of financial institutions and financial technology (Fintech) companies that want to deliver the next generation of digital banking and payment services. The study examines the effect of financial technology (Fintech) on the revenue generation of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) using quarterly data from 2017q1 to 2024q2. The unit root test indicated that revenue generation, point of sales, mobile banking, and bank transfer are stationary at the first difference in other words is the I(1) process. The ARDL model shows the point of sales has a positive and statistically significant effect on the revenue generation of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO). The mobile bank has a positive but statistically insignificant effect on the revenue generation of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO). Bank transfer has a positive and statistically significant effect on the revenue generation of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO). The study recommends that Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) should work on the challenges that hinder the successful operation of point of sales, mobile bank, and bank transfer by striving to meet international best practices. Moreover, the number of points of sale should be increased and made available with easy accessibility to the users.
